Del.icio.us & LibraryThing

I have also had a Del.icio.us account for a little over a year and have been trying to use it to tag interesting websites. I really like the idea of tagging, although the Librarian in me gets a little irritated by the tags that people sometimes use. I really like the ability to have all your bookmarks in one location, although I use the Google bookmarks feature more than I use Del.icio.us. I could maybe see having a Del.icio.us account for the library reference staff to bookmark helpful websites, or one for reader's advisory.

I also created a LibraryThing account and really got carried away. This is so cool! I wonder if there would be some way for a library to use this to create their own catalog? The circulation aspect would probably be the most challenging thing to overcome.

RSS feeds

Today I explored the world of RSS feeds by setting up a bloglines account and subscribing to several RSS feeds. I think in my personal life this might be helpful for having one location where I can follow news stories for the various information sites that I like to frequent. I'm just tempted to subscribe to too many to follow though! I found that going to my favorite sites was much easier for finding RSS feeds than using tools like feedster or topix.net.

Been away awhile....

Today I write to you after a 3 month absence. Ah, life got in the way. Late in March we started the process of buying a house and in April we moved and painted. It was like: "This is the painting that never ends, it goes on and on my friend, Somebody started painting..." Then in late April and May I had school visits to prepare. Now I've just gotten back from a vacation, we went to the Oregon Coast and had a good time. Hopefully I will post a little more regularly. Adios!
